The BCIL is a public limited company set up by DBT and All India Financial Institutions (composing of Export-Import Bank, Mumbai; North East Development Financial Commission, Guwahati; Small Industries Development Bank of India, Lucknow and Industrial Development Bank of India, Mumbai) in 1990 with a mandate to support the biotech industry in India for technology commercialization. BCIL provides active support in the form of consultancy, technology transfer, project management, fund syndication, manpower training and certification services to the corporate sector, national international government bodies and academic institutes. It has also set up a biotech club to update the major developments in this area to its members from academia, government and industry.Â
DBT has taken initiatives to support start-ups and entrepreneurs for R&D. With the support from Central and State governments, DBT has led to the creation of biotechnology parks, incubators as well as pilot projects through PPP.
