Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX)

- iDEX is the executive arm of DIO. It aims to foster technological innovations in Defence and aerospace by engaging with industries (large and SMEs), start-ups, academic and research institutes and individual innovators.
- The scheme was launched in 2018 to provide funding, infrastructural and incubation support for innovative projects through the creation of ‘Defence Innovation Hubs’.

- It was launched by the Ministry of Defence in association with Atal Innovation Mission to facilitate start-ups and MSMEs to develop products/technologies to address problems/issues in national security and defence.
- Ministry of Defence has partnered with six incubators namely Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship, IIM Ahmedabad; Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay; T-Hub, Hyderabad; FORGE, Coimbatore Innovation & Business Incubator (CIBI), Coimbatore; Incubation cell, IIT Madras and Foundation for Innovation and Technology (FITT), IIT-Delhi for mentoring start-ups and MSMEs in area of defence technology.
