It is the major scheme for supporting the pharmaceutical industry in India. It has a total outlay of ₹480 Cr. It functions through its subschemes:
Assistance to Bulk Drug Industry for Common Facility Centre (₹200 Cr allotted under this subscheme)
Assistance to Medical Device Industry for Common Facility Centre (₹100 Cr allotted under this subscheme)
Pharmaceuticals Technology Upgradation Assistance Scheme (PTUAS; ₹144 Cr allotted under this subscheme)
Assistance for Cluster Development (₹30 Cr allotted under this subscheme)
Pharmaceutical Promotion Development Scheme (PPDS; ₹6 Cr allotted under this subscheme).
Creation of Chemical Hubs, Laboratories and Venture Capital Fund
The department is promoting the creation of chemical hubs, mini drug-testing laboratories, and venture capital fund (worth ₹1,000 Cr to support start-ups) under PPP mode with 50% of public funding matched by 50% private sector funding.
