Council for Industry Higher Education Cooperation (CIHEC)

MHRD has created a dedicated body ‘CIHEC’ to promote collaboration between industry and academia. Various initiatives undertaken by CIHEC are:

  • Creation of new institutes as per industry needs for science, education and research
  • Creation of the Centre of Excellence (CoEs) in sector specific manner
  • Establishing the ‘Award’ system for universities doing outstanding collaborative work in association with industries.  

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP)

This scheme aims to generate well trained post-graduate students in order to reduce the shortage of qualified faculty that can pursue industry oriented R&D projects. This programme is working in association with AICTE.

A total of 190 institutions i.e. (26 centrally funded, 127 state government funded and 37 private unaided institutions) have been selected for participation in the Project

Impacting Research Innovation and Technology (IMPRINT) India Initiative

A joint initiative of IITs and IISc Bangalore to address select technology specific domains (Healthcare, environmental science and climate change, information and communication technology, energy, sustainable habitat, nanotechnology hardware, water resources and river system, advanced materials manufacturing, and security and defence). It has implemented 142 IMPRINT projects that has received support from MHRD, other ministries and industry.
