TIFAC is an autonomous body under the ambit of DST. It was established in 1988 to understand and support technology trajectory of the country. TIFAC has developed a close association with academic institutes and industries and promotes collaborative R&D.

TIFAC-SIDBI Technology Innovation Programme

Aims to facilitate technology development and its commercialization. TIFAC provides technical assistance and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) provides financial assistance to industries [mainly Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)]/academic and research institutes for their R&D projects.
Acts as a platform where MSMEs can collaborate with academic and research institutes for technology upgradation. So far, nearly 40 MSME clusters have been supported by this programme and successfully linked with academic institutes in the nearby region.
In addition, TIFAC-MSME Internship scheme was started in 2014-15 to promote stronger links between young researchers and students from academic institutes to MSMEs.
